Dogs That Avoid the Fence Boundary
For some dogs, after they get the first correction, they stay well away from the boundary line. Some dogs will stay on the porch, and others will stay very close to the edge of the building.
This is normal and even a good sign. The dog got the idea that they get the correction for getting too close to the flags. They understand that the house is the safe zone. Left to their own devices, the dog is going to naturally venture further and further out toward the boundary. Over the coming weeks, they will gain confidence that they can get right up to the flags, just not over the line.
If you want to speed up this process a bit, you can play with the dog in the yard to let them know that it is a safe area. You can take them into the safe area on a leash, leading them with confidence. You can do pretty much anything. In fact, the only thing that you should not do during this time is to try and compensate and baby the dog. This will give them the idea that there is something they should be afraid of.
