Hi I have a german short haired pointer she is a very athletic dog with lots of energy, I have lived in the country her whole life, she is use to being in an outdoor run when away at work and has always been kennel trained when in house, but now she is going to be going to a confined area, she will have about an acre to play but where she will be going will be close to a road and traffic, therefore this scares the heck out of me, yes protective mother what would be the best underground fence system to use for her she is three years old now. She is a dog that use to coming back to the house when she is done playing, like I said living in the country has spoiled her

Admin- Hi Michelle,

We recommend the Innotek IUC-4100. The IUC-4100 will work great for your German short hair. I recommend taking a look at out layout plans. Most of the sample layouts plans will allow you to block the road.

We are looking into purchasing a system that will work best for our two dogs. Both of the dogs are labs but one is much larger than the other. Presently the dogs are in a fenced in yard and when kids ride by on bikes the dogs run along the fence and bark but appear to be only letting others know they are there. However, when people walk by one of the dogs gets very irritated and would certainly go after the other dog if there were no fence. We are looking into moving and would like to purchase an electric dog fence. How will we be able to determine which system would be best for our dogs without first trying them out. We do not want to have them run right through they system and attack another dog or chase down a squirrel.

One is a black lab – female – 10 years old, 89 pounds, very friendly but does like to run along the fence line barking at people and/or dogs when they go by.

The other is a mix but mostly lab – male- 8 years old, 75 pounds. Was abused and rescued by us. Very nervous when many people are around and will in fact find a place to hide. However, becomes very irritated when people walk by with their dogs – barks and tries to get out of the yard. One time he did escape and attack another dog – did not injure the other dog but continues to go ballistic when dogs are walked by his yard.

ADMIN - Hi David,

Labs tend to be on the easy end of the spectrum to train on a dog fence because they are smart and are also sensitive to the correction. That gives you a lot of choices, I am going to suggest two that will work particularly well.

The Innotek IUC-4100 is a good system. It sports a rechargeable system with a small collar.

The PetSafe Stubborn Dog Fence is also very good and is a little cheaper. It uses a disposable and has a bigger collar. (The system is one of the higher powered systems, so you would want to keep it on the lower levels for a lab)

This answer presumes you are doing under 10 acres. If it is more, let me know and I will make some other suggestions.

Second question, we will be restricting our dogs from 200 acres to 2. Should I limit their freedom until I get the fence in? Keep them on a leash or tied up when not in their kennel?

ADMIN - Hi Marjie,

As you're installing your fence, I'd not worry too much about it till you're ready to begin training. Once, you begin training though, that's when you limit their freedom.

I have two American Bulldogs, one is 2 1/2 and the other is her pup, 10 mo. The mother is very strong and stubborn and her daugher is less so. I think the stubborn fence would be good, but should I consider the sporting dog model as I am planning to enclose a large pond and about 1/2 acre of swamp. Are the dog collars waterproof? The dogs chase cars and the fence will go along the road for about 100 yards. I am excited with your website, as I am 54 years old and it is all I can do to walk these big dogs. You have so many testimonials it is hard to find specific info that applies to me. Could you have a search button where I could search testimonials about bulldogs? I'm just sayin...

ADMIN - Hi Marjie,

Thanks for the feedback. The SportDog is a good option for you. It does have the same correction strength as the PetSafe Stubborn as well. American Bulldogs have a high pain tolerance, so if any fence will work it will be the SportDog or Stubborn.
