What do you do when you move house and the dogs have a new electric dog fence system to learn? Or what if you change the route of the boundary line for your current system?
The first step is to put the boundary flags back up. If you are in a completely new location, put the flags up everywhere along the boundary line. If you have changed an existing installation, then just put the flags up where the changes have been made. This helps the dog visualize the layout of the system.
The second step is to do some basic refresher training. With the correction activated place the collar on the dog. Have the dog on a long leash and let them explore the yard. If the dog will not go near the flags, then you can start to give them more supervised time off leash and build up to unsupervised time off leash.
If they get near the flags let them hear the beep from the collar and if they don’t immediately retreat let them get the correction, then pull them back and yell “No.” Repeat for about ten minutes twice a day. It should only take the dog a session or two to regain their memory of how the containment system works.
