Too tight and it is uncomfortable for the dog, too loose and the collar is ineffective.
Tighten the collar so that you can slip two fingers between the collar and the dog. The collar probes should be in contact with the dog’s skin. Otherwise the dog will not consistently receive the correction.
For dogs with thick hair, you may need to use a collar with extra long probes or cut some of the dog’s hair around the neck where the probes contact the skin.
