Reader Question: Water

by admin on September 25, 2008

A reader asks whether they should include their swimming pool in their fence boundary.

When we install fences, the question commonly comes up whether a pool or creek should be included within the fence boundaries.  On one hand, owner know that their dog loves paying in the water, on the other hand they don’t want a wet dog coming in and out of their home tracking mud.

We strongly recommend that owners stop their dog from having access to bodies of water.  Every time we have allowed a dog free access to water it has been an unmitigated disaster for the owner.  Just as most owners fear, the dog plays in the water and then comes inside tracking water and dirt into your living room.  It is better to block their access to the water and only let them play in the water when you want them to.
